1. Introdução
Após complicações com a Fanbase do amado programa de televisão, nos bastidores e até com o público não consumidor, o conhecido show sobre um alienígena muito britânico volta as telas, agora com um “Novo Doutor”, mas com uma cara já conhecida, assim como problemas. Doctor Who terá sua décima quarta temporada com a volta de um de seus antigos atores, David Tennant, mais uma vez interpretando nosso querido Doutor, assim como a brilhante Catherine Tate como Donna Noble, sua sagaz companheira, mas seria isso o suficiente para fazer o show voltar a ter o reconhecimento e amor que ele tinha? Muitos dizem que não, e isso apenas após o primeiro episódio desta nova fase.
2. A Fera Estelar
De nome forte, o primeiro especial da nova temporada “The Star Beast” tenta resgatar no 220 a nostalgia e aquele sabor doce que a ficção de Doctor Who sempre apresentou, mas deixa um sabor amargo devido à percepção de que a indústria, ao tentar abordar novos públicos, às vezes compromete qualidade por marketing. Embora seja um episódio bom, considerando o contexto grandioso, não atende às expectativas. O roteiro, baseado em uma história em quadrinhos, aborda questões de gênero medianamente. A conclusão, envolvendo a personagem Donna, é criticada por falta de execução. A nova TARDIS e a atuação de David Tennant são pontos positivos, mas se apenas isso salvasse um roteiro fraco, qualquer ator de grande escala transformaria uma Cinderela Baiana (1998) em um fenômeno Interstellar (2014).
3. Representatividade ou Bola fora?
A nova geração de Doctor Who desde seu início deu foco em abordar temas atuais e muitas vezes polêmicos, mas sempre sendo um show respeitoso a diversidade, não apenas a abraçando mas também a trazendo a tona com personagens incríveis e que nos abastecem a memória com diálogo, ações e momentos inesquecíveis. Mas isso ainda continua verdadeiro nesta nova faceta do Doutor? Bem, não muito.
Infelizmente a já antiga, mas recente abordagem a temas importantes como sexualidade, problemas sociais e econômicos de nosso mundo, com muitos efeitos especiais, mas pouca substância, continua presente, mais diluído, mas ainda sim deixando esse amarguinho na garganta. “Nem tudo é o que parece” poderia ter sido o nome do episódio pela abordagem um tanto fraca ao tema da transexualidade com uma personagem trans que não é forte, mas é usada como o foco da mensagem, quase um token (Pessoas ou coisas usadas como bode expiatório de alguma situação que a envolve), mas que infelizmente não desenvolve a trama, mas tem essa apenas lhe cercando e não nos da um gosto de “quero mais”, tal qual Donna Noble e demais companheiros e companheiras já nos deram ao longo dos anos. No final o vilão era a criatura que parecia estar sendo perseguida, Donna continua a lembrar do Doutor sem consequencia ou peso que antes isso teria e a personagem trans tão anunciada pelo marketing que todos esperávamos ser esse grande novo elo para um novo doutor está muito mais ali como um peão do que como uma personagem forte, carismática e que nos conquista. A nova era de Doctor Who está demonstrando realmente a mensagem do episódio em concordância ao marketing, já que nem tudo é o que parece.

1. Introduction
After complications with the beloved television show’s fanbase, backstage issues, and even complications with the non-consumer audience, the well-known show about a very British alien returns to the screens, now with a “New Doctor” but with a familiar face, just like problems. Doctor Who will have its fourteenth season with the return of one of its former actors, David Tennant, once again playing our dear Doctor, along with the brilliant Catherine Tate as Donna Noble, his witty companion. But would this be enough to regain the show’s recognition and love? Many say no, and this is only after the first episode of this new phase.
2. The Star Beast
With a strong name, the first special of the new season, “The Star Beast,” tries to rescue the nostalgia and the sweet flavor that Doctor Who fiction has always presented, but leaves a bitter taste due to the perception that the industry, in trying to address new audiences, sometimes compromises quality for marketing. Although it is a good episode, considering the grand context, it falls short of expectations. The script, based on a comic book, addresses gender issues in a mediocre way. The conclusion, involving the character Donna, is criticized for lack of execution. The new TARDIS and David Tennant’s performance are positive points, but if only that could save a weak script, any actor of great scale would turn a weak production into a phenomenon.
3. Representation or not so much?
Since its inception, the new generation of Doctor Who has focused on addressing current and often controversial themes while always being a show respectful of diversity, not only embracing it but also bringing it to the forefront with incredible characters that fuel our memory with unforgettable dialogue, actions, and moments. But is this still true in this new facet of the Doctor? Well, not so much.
Unfortunately, the already old but recent approach to important themes such as sexuality, social and economic problems of our world, with many special effects but little substance, is still present, more diluted but still leaving a bitter taste. “Not everything is as it seems” could have been the name of the episode due to the somewhat weak approach to the theme of transgender identity with a trans character that is not strong but is used as the focus of the message, almost like a token (people or things used as a scapegoat for a situation involving them), but unfortunately does not develop the plot but only surrounds it without giving us a taste of “wanting more,” as Donna Noble and other companions have given us over the years. In the end, the villain was the creature that seemed to be pursued, Donna continues to remember the Doctor without consequences or weight that it would have had before, and the trans character, so much hyped by marketing, that we all hoped would be this great new link for a new Doctor, is much more there as a pawn than as a strong, charismatic character who wins us over. The new era of Doctor Who is really demonstrating the message of the episode in accordance with marketing since not everything is as it seems.
