Yuna: I liked it very much. I still like the subject a lot even though I finished the course, I don’t study it anymore. There’s so much in biology to know, like, there are many different areas you can study. It was a very rich experience for me. And you, how was it for you? And I also want to ask you, how did you decide to study biology?
Poliana: I was seventeen years old and I had to think what I was going to do, what university I was going to attend, what courses I was going to do. And the only course that I would feel something for was Biology. Thinking of working with animals made my heart a little bit warm. And you?
Yuna: Yeah It was pretty similar, I also got into the university when I was seventeen, which is a pretty young age, right? So it’s very difficult to decide what you’re going to do supposedly for the rest of your life. But for me it was, I really liked Biology in school, like the subject, It was my favorite subject. I had wonderful teachers. I think that’s the major factor that made me choose this course, but also I was in between psychology or maybe veterinary for the same reason as you, like, I really like animals. I’ve always liked them, and I like the thought of working with animals.
Poliana: What was your favorite thing about the course?
Yuna: So as I said, I didn’t like botany before, but then in college it was very good. I really like the subject, but I still wanted to work with animals and then I ended up really really enjoying studying bats. My pieces of research were about bats in university. And ecology, I think ecology was my favorite subject. And for you?
Poliana: Yeah, I think for me it is the same, I started university liking animals, wanting to work with animals, but I ended up liking botany too, it was very interesting, and I then I thought of working with a mix between animals and botany, and plants, like interactions between animals and plants. That is very famous?! I think I can say that it’s a famous area of research. One thing that I didn’t like was microbiology, I never liked that.
Yuna: Yes, I took a class in microbiology at the… I think in my last years of university, and then I enjoyed it, but I think if I had taken them at the beginning of the course I really wouldn’t have liked it. I hated, I think the worst classes for me were embryology and also biochemistry.
Poliana: Yeah, yeah, Both of them I took online, because of the pandemic. I think that’s the reason that I was able to pass these subjects too, because they are very very hard, especially embryology, I don’t know, it’s so complex and complicated.

Poliana: Eu tinha dezessete anos e precisei pensar no que iria fazer, em qual universidade iria ingressar, quais cursos eu faria. E o único curso que me despertou algo foi Biologia. Pensar em trabalhar com animais aqueceu um pouco o meu coração. E você?
Yuna: Sim, foi bem parecido. Também entrei na universidade com dezessete anos, o que é uma idade bem jovem, né? Então é muito difícil decidir o que você vai fazer supostamente pelo resto da vida. Mas para mim, eu realmente gostava de Biologia na escola, era minha matéria favorita. Tive professores maravilhosos. Acho que esse foi o principal fator que me fez escolher esse curso, mas também fiquei em dúvida entre psicologia ou talvez veterinária, pelo mesmo motivo que você, sabe, eu gosto muito de animais. Sempre gostei e pensei em trabalhar com eles.
Poliana: Qual foi a sua coisa favorita no curso?
Yuna: Como eu disse, eu não gostava de botânica antes, mas depois na faculdade foi muito bom. Eu realmente gostei da matéria, mas ainda queria trabalhar com animais e acabei gostando muito de estudar morcegos. Minhas pesquisas eram sobre morcegos na universidade. E ecologia, acho que ecologia foi minha matéria favorita. E para você?
Poliana: Sim, acho que para mim é a mesma coisa. Comecei a faculdade gostando de animais, querendo trabalhar com eles, mas acabei gostando também de botânica, foi muito interessante, e pensei em trabalhar com uma mistura de animais e botânica, plantas, como interações entre animais e plantas. É uma área de pesquisa bem conhecida, acho que posso dizer que é famosa. Uma coisa que eu não gostava era microbiologia, nunca gostei disso.
Yuna: Sim, eu fiz uma disciplina de microbiologia… acho que nos meus últimos anos de universidade, e aí eu gostei, mas acredito que se tivesse feito no início do curso realmente não teria gostado. Eu detestava, acho que as piores disciplinas para mim eram embriologia e também bioquímica…
Poliana: Sim, sim. Ambas eu fiz online por causa da pandemia. Acho que é a razão pela qual consegui passar nessas disciplinas também, porque são muito, muito difíceis, especialmente embriologia, não sei, é tão complexa e complicada.
Yuna: Sim, é verdade.
